Last week, I met with a local Santa Cruz business owner who wanted me to take a look at her website to try to figure out why it ranks so low. She has a music-related business. Her website was at the bottom of page 2 in the Google search results for her primary keyword. For a local search means her potential customers are never going to scroll that far to click on her website.
Here is what I found out.
Number 1, her website was built by a friend using one of those do-it-yourself site builders. Many of these builders do not allow the use of effective 3rd party tools to teach the search engines how to find your content.
Number 2, the person who built her website did not include 7 keywords that her competition were using effectively to get high in the search engine results.
Business owners are smart to want to save money on marketing expenses. However, I often get hired to build a new site because the do-it-yourself site builder is not driving enough traffic to provide the number of new customers my clients need.
